I really didn't consider hiking to be a good workout until I took it up in the 90's and came to exactly the opposite conclusion. My first 4 major hikes were up Half Dome in Yosemite.

2007 Mt Diablo (3849 ft). I only include Mt Diablo because it was our regular workout hike for decades. 10 miles, 2.25 hours round trip.
2013 - Mt Dana,CA (13061ft), the highest mountain in Yosemite Natl Park
2014 - Pulpit Rock, Preikstollen. 1982 ft above Lysefjorden
